100th Birthday Cake ( and my first heart shaped cake ! )

I hope if I get to be 100, someone organises cake !  I do hope the recipient of this rosey little creation enjoys her cake this weekend :) Kind of pleased with how it turned out, photo was taken in really poor light hence not the greatest shot . . .
Its a vanilla bean sponge with raspberry preserve and vanilla buttercream.

Candy Striped Birthday Cake

I made this cake last year for my wonderful Nans' 97th birthday, I had wanted to try 'Candy Striping' with royal icing and it was as tricky as I had imagined but I was pleased with the results and thought the colours were really summery and pretty :)
I also made a slightly different version of this cake for a birthday, with butterflies on top, as shown above.
Inside was a luscious lemon sponge with lemon buttercream- Perfect for a summer birthday

Monday

So, its Bank Holiday Monday, hubster has had to work, so I took the kids over to a park on the seafront this morning, we had a picnic there and it waa dull and overcast and not too exciting....well for me anyway, am pretty sure they enjoyed it all !
I have a 100th birthday cake to make this week, it feels an honour actually, to be making a cake for a centurian, what an amazing achievement. Just imagine how much the world changes in a hundred years ?!
I hope this special lady loves her cake. I have no artistic license on this one, the order is very specific. I will post a pic when its all done on Friday.

I am also trying to design a Christening cake today for a friends baby, she has a few ideas and loves my vintage style roses so I just need to figure how its all going to look together !

Happy Bank Holiday !

Sex and The City 2

I finally caught up with the girls tonight ! Of course I am referring to Carrie, Miranda (my second child would have been named after her- had 'he' been a 'she' !) Charlotte and Samantha !
Some minor criticisms but overall, I LOVED it, was like seeing your mates again after a couple of yrs and I so enjoyed a couple of hours of pure escapism, and a gin and tonic in the auditorium made it just perfect :)

Butterfly Cookie

We seem to be on a butterfly theme today, which perhaps means new beginnings, very appropriate for my new blog :)
This is a vanilla cookie, decorated with royal icing...and a hint of sparkle !

Welcome :)

So here is the first post, of my first blog, ever.
I have white page syndrome ! So much to say but, oh, where to start? .  . . .
Well, then, let me tell you a little about me. My name is Fiona, I live by the sea, in West Sussex, England, with my husband and two beautiful children, Ruby who is six and a half, and her impish little gorgeous brother, Jonas who has just turned four.

A few years ago I decided to follow my dreams and do what I had so long spoken of and start to make decorative cakes.

I had no training, and no idea, how to make nor decorate a cake !

I needed to find out and the sparks of something started to happen when I became a Mummy to gorgeous Ruby. Her 1st birthday was of course a monumental occasion and one that needed cake. I created something that, looking back on was certainly very amateur ( how I wish I had a photo ! ) but it fired up my interest and thereafter I started to play around with materials, buy books and research online.

Fast forward to now, 5 years or so ahead, and I have a cake business, named sugarsugar (http://www.sugarsugarcreations.com/) and one of which that I feel very proud. I have worked hard to come to this point and I am proud of how far I have come and how much I have taught myself. There is much more to learn !

Over time I will add some photos and give you some insight into my world of cake, but also into my world of beauty. For there is so much beauty all around and I have been feeling for some time that I want to record some of it here, to share and delight in the things that make me happy and make me smile, make me glow and make me think.

Welcome to my blog, I am glad you found me. Stay a while and share this journey with me.
